ILP teaching method
CorrectIncorrectHint
“We teach everything in context. We don’t explicitly teach the rules of the language, at least within the first two years of the program. Another thing we do differently than normal teachers is that there’s a big emphasis on practice and not a big emphasis on instruction. There’s a difference between competence through study and competence through practicing. We’re also looking for spontaneous, native-like speech. We’re not looking for memorization because that really doesn’t produce a good speaker. The kids will learn how to speak spontaneously over time as long as they have opportunities to practice.”
