Question 1 of 1
The ILP teaching method is different from traditional teaching classes in a few significant ways. Drag a typical teaching scenario to the right type of teaching method.
- You give the children a list of vocabulary words of common animals that they can memorize for the spelling bee at the end of the week.
- After showing a photo of a butterfly, you ask they children if they can fly, too. The students jump out of their chairs and flap their arms saying, "I can fly!"
Traditional language learning
ILP teaching method
“We teach everything in context. We don’t explicitly teach the rules of the language, at least within the first two years of the program. Another thing we do differently than normal teachers is that there’s a big emphasis on practice and not a big emphasis on instruction. There’s a difference between competence through study and competence through practicing. We’re also looking for spontaneous, native-like speech. We’re not looking for memorization because that really doesn’t produce a good speaker. The kids will learn how to speak spontaneously over time as long as they have opportunities to practice.”
